Travels to Bangkok

Bangkok traffic makes New York City look like a farm! It is by far the worst traffic I have experienced around the globe. If the people weren’t so friendly, you would have road rage big time. This was my first time back in 10 years. There were more scooters than cars, and more “tuk tuk’s” than taxis. Now the reverse is true. For those of you who don’t know, a tuk tuk is a motorcycle engine (along with the loud sounds and fumes) with a platform to seat 2 passengers covered by a flimsy roof. In times of severe traffic, the tuk tuk can be slightly (and I use the term loosely) quicker than a taxi plus you can weave in and around the traffic which can make the passengers “car” sick! We almost missed the ship that we were on because the traffic to get back to the port was so bad, and this was on a weekend. I can’t imagine what the weekdays are like getting to work.

The sights of the palace, the “reclining” gold Buddha and the floating river markets were amazing. This must be the original city that never sleeps with the night markets and bars open into the morning. Even the flower market is open past 11 at night.

In Asia, this is a must see destination. If for not the traffic and historical sights, the shopping and tailor made clothes make it memorable!
