The Zimbabwe Report….Victoria Falls is SAFE for tourists!

This is the 2nd largest water fall in the world and what a shame it would be not to see it because of some crazy politician in the capital and some local unrest. I am in Victoria Falls now and it is very safe with security located in the area, but all the locals I have met here are very nice and so happy to have visitors to their wonderful site. This is about an 8 hour drive from the capital Harare, where there has been unrest in the past, so there is little chance of problems here. It’s sort of like never visiting the US because there was a terrorist attack in NYC or threats to the White House. I realize that a country led by a corrupt ruler is different…though I brought my three children here and feel very comfortable.

Yesterday, we took a wonderful elephant safari (riding the elephants in the bush) and the kids went zip lining. There is also bungee jumping, canoeing and rafting. Very active days, if you like…you can even have a walk with the lions. They have 8 to 11 month old cubs that have been trained to bush walk with a small group (don’t worry, they have 4 security guards - one with a rifle just in case)…a once in a lifetime experience and not to be missed.

We had to wear raincoats and bring umbrellas because of the height of the falls and the force by which the water falls into the Zambezi River. More adventures await us as we safari in Botswana and Kruger National Park… stay tuned!
