Destination Wedding?

Its difficult for couples to figure out if they want to get married elsewhere. I think many couples who either have such a big invite list or have some family members they don’t want to come decided that a wedding on a Caribbean Island will weed out those guests that may not come and make it more special and intimate with those who really want to share the occasion.

Some decide to fly to an island and stay at an all inclusive resort to get married and some people choose to cruise and get married on the ship (many have chapels) or on the beach at one of the islands on the itinerary. This is a little tricky as you have to be cognizant of the laws of that particular country ( or as in Mexico the actual state) of residency before the marriage. Some islands and countries require 3 business days of residency before you can get married and others allow weddings the day you arrive (necessary if one cruises). There are wedding planners associated with all the cruiselines and with most resorts who will take care of every detail. Marriage licenses, flowers, witnesses, reception, photography, music and location. They cost a fraction of what it would cost at home. Also with an all inclusive resort or with a cruise that includes food, the reception food is often included and the costs minimal. The guests can come for a few days while the couple can stay for a week or go to another resort after as a “honeymoon”.

This is especially popular with second marriages and when the guest list is small and people have the means to travel.
