I feel much more relaxed on vacation if I can access my office email and take care of things while away, even just to forward email on to someone at the office who can take care of things. Just the thought of coming back to 200 emails after a week after a vacation makes me get more uptight and unable to relax. If there are issues that a simple 2 word email can solve without exploding into something if delayed can work, why not? Many say that being away should mean just that. I guess it’s just how involved you are in your work and how important it is to be connected. For many, it is not essential. I have a great office staff who can assist me when I am away, but I am a bit of a control freak (I will admit it) and I feel better being connected and can relax even the day before returning knowing that the first day back at the office will hold no surprises.
Most ships and hotels and resorts now do offer connection everywhere. Many of my clients who are traders or rely in the net for their business will not travel if they can’t get internet access. I do understand this and I don’t think it is for others to judge that they should not be connected when on a holiday. We find out for everyone where they can and where they cannot get internet connectivity. I hope everyone can vacation in the way it makes them more comfortable.
