Everyone likes to get perks and be recognized by staff when checking into a hotel. You look at the person in front of you in the check in line and want to know how is it that they were just addressed by the front desk as “Welcome back Mr. Smith”. It’s easy. Most hotel groups (if you can keep up with what chain owns which hotels) have a “loyalty” club. You never have had to stay in one of their properties to join, you can usually go to the hotel website and sign up for their membership club. For example, one of my favorite hotel groups is Fairmont. You can sign up for their President’s club for no fee and you will be able to use their membership card and the number they give you for priority check in and for perks such as an upgrade if available. Now don’t think you will get the presidential suite with the club floor and drinks and appetizers; but you may get a room with a better view or location.
Marriott also has a loyalty program and you can earn points just by staying there which can be redeemed for free stays in the future; again, this is at no cost to you. You can also ask your travel agent to assist in signing you up for these programs…. We know about them and it doesn’t cost any more for us to book the rooms for you; the same rate prevails weather you book it yourself or we do it for you… why not enjoy the service?
