Buon giornĂ² from Florence and Tuscany. After many times in this country, there is something to be discovered at every corner. Here are some tips for a smooth visit. The Academia museum and the Uffizi have long lines, but to avoid them is easy. You can call ahead for reservations, either to the museum line or the concierge of the hotel where you are staying. You need to decide on day and time. They both offer audio guides that allow one to soak in some of the most famous art works in the world at your own pace.
Renting a car is easy and driving is the best way to see Tuscany or Umbria . Make sure you bring a detailed road map from home, as the maps that some of the car rental companies provide are very poor and don’t have the proper roads marked. San Gimignano and the surrounding towns are quaint with a lot to see. Finding the perfect hotel in that area for
2 days to visit various towns and vineyards is essential.
Another nice surprise was visiting a wonderful spa in Tuscany with natural thermal pools discovered by the Medici family thousands of years ago. One spa I visited was the Fonteverde spa which is between Rome and Florence. A 72 room hotel/spa in the middle of Tuscany can be enjoyed for a day or for a few days. They have every treatment from around the world that I’ve ever heard of. Booking ahead is essential. In the summer, it will be hot to go in the steaming thermal spas. During the colder months, it will be fabulous. It would be a great combination to do Rome for a few days, spa for a few days then end in Florence for a few days.
Stay tuned for Siena in a day or two.
