We just received notice that all cruise lines are adding a fuel surcharge to all bookings. The rates range from $5 per person per day to $7.50per person per day. Some lines have a cap of $70 per person. This was inevitable and I don’t blame the crusie lines for doing this. As we all recognize the need to do this, it is an accounting nightmare for my office.
I asked the cruise lines to put it on passenger’s shipboard accounts. They do not want to do this because if the agency does it and notifies the clients, they have the option to cancel if these fees are too much for them to pay. If passengers get on board and they charge you this amount, you may decide you don’t want to pay it because you were not notified. So they put the burden of collecting on your friendly travel agent.
Just another service we have to provide! Just a note… cruises are still a better buy in Europe than hotel stays with meals additional as the euro is now $1.45 and everything is 50% more for us than just 2 years ago and 30% more than last year!
They are filling up quickly for summer of 2008, so don’t delay.
